PLAZA & TOLLS
SEAMLESS TRAVEL WITH TRAC e-TAGS AND EXPRESS LANES
Move through the N4 corridor with maximum efficiency. By pairing a valid electronic tag with our dedicated Express Lanes, you can pay your toll without the need to stop, ensuring your journey through South Africa and Mozambique is as smooth and contactless as possible. This system is the fastest way to navigate our plazas, allowing you to maintain your momentum while we handle the rest.
GETTING YOUR e-TAGS
GETTING YOUR e-TAGS
Obtaining a tag is a straightforward and cost-effective process. While you pay R50 for the device, that full amount is immediately credited back to your tag account, making the hardware essentially free of charge. You can register your account through the SANRAL Call Centre or online via their web portal. Once your account is linked to a payment method and credited, you are ready to utilize the express network.
WHERE TO FIND AND TOP UP
Tags are available at all TRAC N4 mainline toll plazas in South Africa, as well as selected shopping malls and customer service outlets along Gauteng e-roads. Keeping your account healthy is just as easy, with top-up options available via the SANRAL app, the call centre, or at major retail outlets including Checkers and Pick n Pay.

HOW THE EXPRESS SYSTEM WORKS
Our Express Lanes are situated on the extreme left of the toll plaza in each direction. As you enter the lane, you will pass through a reading zone where your tag is automatically scanned. If your account has sufficient funds, the “proceed” boom on the left will open, allowing you to join the main road after the plaza without ever coming to a halt.
ENSURING A SUCCESSFUL PASSAGE
It is vital to ensure your tag account is always funded, as the boom will only open if the balance is sufficient. In the event that a tag is faulty or funds are depleted, the system is designed to safely redirect you through an “eject” boom on the right. This will guide you back into the main plaza where you can settle your toll fees via an alternative payment method.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR TAG SIGNALS AND ACCOUNT HEALTH
To help you manage your travel effectively, your electronic tag provides audible feedback during your commute. A single beep confirms a successful transaction. If you hear two beeps, your account balance is running low and requires attention. Hearing four beeps indicates that your funds are entirely depleted, and you should top up immediately to avoid being redirected to the manual booths at the next plaza. For assistance, our 24-hour helpdesk remains available at 0800 87 22 64.
