In the world of motorsport there are many heroes, but very few legends! Legends are talented, influential and inspirational and that is why the legends of South African rallying will be honoured during in the 2020 TRACN4 Rally.

The two-day rally, which will also serve as the final two legs of the 2020 National Rally Championships, will take place on 27 and 28 November around the quaint and unique town of Dullstroom in the eMakhazeni area of Mpumalanga. Day 1 will start from Lakenvlei, while Day 2 will commence from the Dullstroom Epilepsy Centre.

Several retired legends of the sport have already confirmed their attendance at this year’s event; in part to commemorate this exciting event with the current organisers and sponsors, as well as to feel the rush of adrenalin through their veins again. One such legend is Kassie Coetzee, an icon in the South African and the continent’s motor rallying circles.

Oom Kassie, as he is affectionately known, excelled as a rally driver in the ‘70s and ‘80s, in a variety of cars. He is, however, best known for his performances in his legendary Nissans. He not only excelled in several Toyota International Rallies, but also outshone his competitors in numerous Castrol Rallies, the Stannic Rally, Wesbank Rally and the Tour de Valvoline. In the early ’90s, oom Kassie turned his hand to cross country motor racing and together with his navigator Richard Leeke, won the 1992 and 1993 Toyota 1000 Desert Race, hosted in Botswana, in a Toyota Hilux. They also competed for many years in the annual Zimbabwe Challenge Rally.

According to oom Kassie, a resident of eMakhazeni, the 2020 TRACN4 Rally is going to be epic. “What TRAC is doing is remarkable,” he says. “I have witnessed some of the behind-the-scenes activities and I am confident that this rally is going to be extraordinary. Not only will it do wonders for South African Motorsport, but it will also be advantageous for the economy of our towns.” He adds that he is humbled and privileged that he and several other retired drivers and navigators will be the guests of honour at the rally.

With the top competitors of this year’s national championships, such as Guy Botterill and Simon Vacy-Lyle, Theuns Joubert and Charl Peskin, Chris Coertse and Greg Godrich, JJ Potgieter and Tommy Du Toit, Natie Booysen and Johan Smith, competing in the 2020 TRACN4 Rally there is no doubt that this event is going to be packed with thrilling action and competition, which is sure to satisfy and impress oom Kassie and the other rally legends who will grace the event with their presence.
